Joe 2, White Sheets by H.D. Gordon: Spotlight + Review

Joe Knowe sees things before they happen. Bad things. Just a couple months ago it was a psychopath planning a mass shooting at the college she attended. Now, she's facing a whole different kind of madman, and one potentially far more dangerous.

To keep the pending disaster from happening, this time Joe will have to get up close and personal, making herself at home in the lion's den, and attempting not to be swallowed whole.

Will she be able to keep herself and those around her from drinking the Kool-Aid? Or will they all end up under white sheets? In this second installment of the thrilling JOE series, H.D. Gordon takes you into the heart of a cult, the mind of its leader, and the lives of his followers.

Expected publication: March 26th 2014

JoeJoe by H.D. Gordon
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Joe is a college student with an unusual gift. She realizes she can't save the world, even with some foresight and knowing what is coming, but she knows she has to try. As the main character, Joe is not what you might expect. She has this strange gift, but she is not a superhero, and she is not out to make a name for herself.

The storyline was well written, and there was a great buildup of tension throughout the story. As the drama unfolded and little pieces of the story fell into place, I was left trying to read faster to find out what was going to happen! The author did an excellent job fleshing out each of her characters. The story is told from multiple viewpoints, and each of those characters was made into a unique individual. Each person shared their part of the story and helped to make it complete. The book itself is well written, and the writing is natural and flowing.

Joe is an engaging story, and I hated to see it come to an end…but what an end it was! But, of course, already having read H.D. Gordon's Alexa Montgomery series, I expected nothing less.

That's What He Said #1

That's What HE Said
is a weekly meme hosted by Chapter Break

where you share your favorite line from your book boyfriend to his heroine.

"I've never had to work so hard for something I never thought I wanted."
-Colton Donavan
Author:  K. Bromberg

My Thoughts:  This is my first ever That's What He Said!
I loved the Driven Trilogy!  Colton is the type of guy who does not take no for an answer. When he sees something he wants, he goes for it…and he wants Rylee. Sexy, flirtatious playboy, Colton comes into Rylee's life like a whirlwind and shakes her control. Though Colton's character is enigmatic and with enough mood changes to give a person whiplash, you see just enough through the cracks in his tough facade to know there is something there worth fighting for.

Waiting on Wednesday #10: Night Broken by Patricia Briggs

 "Waiting On" Wednesday
is a weekly event hosted by Breaking the Spine
that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

My next eagerly anticipated book is:

#1 New York Times bestselling author Patricia Briggs’s Mercy Thompson series has been hailed as “one of the best” (Fiction Vixen). Now, Mercy must deal with an unwanted guest—one that brings a threat unlike anything she’s ever known.

An unexpected phone call heralds a new challenge for Mercy. Her mate Adam’s ex-wife is in trouble, on the run from her new boyfriend. Adam isn’t the kind of man to turn away a person in need—and Mercy knows it. But with Christy holed up in Adam’s house, Mercy can’t shake the feeling that something about the situation isn’t right.

Soon, her suspicions are confirmed when she learns that Christy has the farthest thing from good intentions. She wants Adam back and she’s willing to do whatever it takes to make it happen, including turning Adam’s pack against Mercy.

Mercy isn’t about to step down without a fight, but there’s a more dangerous threat circling. Christy’s ex is more than a bad man—in fact, he may not be human at all. As the bodies start piling up, Mercy must put her personal troubles aside to face a creature with the power to tear her whole world apart.

Hardcover, 352 pages
Expected publication: March 11th 2014 by Ace Hardcover

My Thoughts:  I've loved this series from book one.  I love a strong female lead, and we get that in Mercy.  She never sits around waiting for her man to save the day (and what a sexy man he is!), but she's also not perfect.  She makes mistakes, and pays dearly for those mistakes.  I would suggest this series to anyone who loves the paranormal, hot and sexy werewolves, and a kick-ass female.

THE CHASE by Janet Evanovich and Lee Goldberg: Release Day + Giveaway

Bantam – Random House

On sale February 25, 2014

Janet Evanovich and Lee Goldberg, New York Times bestselling authors of The Heist, return in this action-packed, exciting adventure featuring master con artist Nicolas Fox and die-hard FBI agent Kate O’Hare. And this time around, things go from hot to nuclear when government secrets are on the line.

Internationally renowned thief and con artist Nicolas Fox is famous for running elaborate and daring scams. His greatest con of all: convincing the FBI to team him up with the only person who has ever caught him, and the only woman to ever capture his attention, Special Agent Kate O’Hare. Together they’ll go undercover to swindle and catch the world’s most wanted—and untouchable—criminals.

Their newest target is Carter Grove, a former White House chief of staff and the ruthless leader of a private security agency. Grove has stolen a rare Chinese artifact from the Smithsonian, a crime that will torpedo U.S. relations with China if it ever becomes public. Nick and Kate must work under the radar—and against the clock—to devise a plan to steal the piece back. Confronting Grove’s elite assassins, Nick and Kate rely on the skills of their ragtag crew, including a flamboyant actor, a Geek Squad techie, and a band of AARP-card-carrying mercenaries led by none other than Kate’s dad.

A daring heist and a deadly chase lead Nick and Kate from Washington, D.C., to Shanghai, from the highlands of Scotland to the underbelly of Montreal. But it’ll take more than death threats, trained henchmen, sleepless nights, and the fate of a dynasty’s priceless heirloom to outsmart Fox and O’Hare.

About the Author:  Many years ago I was in a bookstore when I came across a volume of manga by the all-female Japanese team CLAMP. It was at that moment I understood the storytelling power of manga and how it was so unlike anything I had ever seen before. Since then, I've been studying day by day to draw and write my own manga series. I have a BS in Computer Science from the University of Florida and a Master's in Sequential Art at SCAD.

I am currently living in Savannah, GA.
